i/OS License transfers

In 2010 IBM provided clients the capability to transfer an i/OS license from one system to another within their end user enterprise, albeit at a cost, but this had excluded the low end systems with user based licenses.  With IBM’s recent announcements, February 2011, IBM will now allow a client to transfer IBM i operating system licenses and the associated IBM i user entitlements from one machine to another, still within the same end user’s enterprise, subject to certain qualifying conditions, and a charge.

This is a huge benefit to clients looking to upgrade their systems where no upgrade path exists and extends investment protection to systems at the low end.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail; understanding the costs associated with the transfer and the resulting savings it offers when configuring a system then please contact Nigel Gillespie.
